Atherosclerosis is a traditional research target of the 3rd Department of Medicine. It is in the background of various high mortality diseases such as stroke or acute myocardial infarct. The role of inflammation and endothelial cells in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis became unquestionable, thus Endothelial Cell Group was founded in 1999.
Since complement immunology is the main research field of the other groups in the Research Lab, Endothelial Cell Group combined these two fields and aimed to study the inflammatory reaction of endothelial cells responding to complement proteins in human umbilical vein endothelial cell model. Our group also participates in clinical studies where endothelial cell functional parameters are assessed.
