Ági, our Core Facility leader, spent a wonderful week in Heidelberg where she visited the EMBL Flow Cytometry Core Facility. She met Beata Ramasz, Flow Cytometry Specialist, Daniel Gimenes, Senior Flow Cytometry Specialist and Vladimir Benes, Head of Genomics Core Facility and Scientific Ombudsperson that she could talk about our work experiences, Core management challenges (users and customers), future omics plans. She also visited the EMBL Advanced Training Centre, inspired by DNA’s double helix, the Advanced Light Microscopy Facility and the Genomics Core Facility. Lastly, she met Michael Bonadonna who showed her the EMBL Mobile lab (TREC). The TREC truck, that has just arrived from a 1.5 year expedition along the European seacoast collected various sea samples for future investigation. The truck was equipped with an entire lab: microscopes, cryopreservation tools, incubators, and even a sorter. AMAZING!
