International Thoracic Surgery Fellowship

The fellowship invites candidates from Europe and internationally who are close to completing their surgical training or have recently obtained their nationally recognized thoracic surgical board certification. Our program performs a high number of minimally invasive procedures, with over 600 RATS cases each year, and offers experience in a wide range of thoracic surgeries. The program is supported by an internationally connected surgical team actively involved in research, education, and innovation. In addition to the hands-on surgical work, the fellowship includes opportunities to participate in clinical studies and contribute to academic publications.

Surgical spectrum:

We perform 2000 thoracic surgical procedures every year. The latest technology is available in three Olympus smart operating theaters with state-of-the-art medical equipment. Our VATS program has been in place since 2009, and in 2024, we performed 80% of our cases using minimally invasive approaches. Our robotic program started in 2024, and since then, we have used a dual console Da Vinci Xi, performing 2-3 thoracic RATS cases each day. The available 3D modeling supports complex segmentectomies. In our lung transplant program, we perform 25 transplantations each year with the help of our distinguished ECMO center. Fellows could gain experience in minimally invasive techniques (video- and robotic-assisted surgery), tracheobronchial surgery, and advanced oncological resections, with optional exposure to lung transplantation. Additionally, laser metastasectomy, navigational bronchoscopy, CT-guided biopsies, and markings are also available.
