Tamás Ruttkay obtained his general medical degree from Semmelweis University in 2012. He began his scientific work as a student in the Applied and Clinical Anatomy Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Lajos Patonay and Prof. Dr. Zoltán Galajda.
Immediately after graduating, he worked for four years as a cardiac surgery resident in Stuttgart at Sana Herzchirurgie under Prof. Dr. Nicolas Doll. His area of interest has always been mitral valve procedures, so one of his main tasks at the clinic was to set up and coordinate the MitraClip program and perform the procedures. He defended his doctoral thesis, entitled Experimental model and anatomic principles of transapical mitral repair, which summarized the research he began during his student years, at the University of Pécs in 2017. After spending several years in Germany, he decided to return to the Institute of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at Semmelweis University with his acquired clinical experience to take up a teaching and research position. Initially, he worked as a teaching assistant, and since 2018, he has been participating in undergraduate and postgraduate anatomy education in Hungarian and German as an assistant professor. He has many years of experience in organizing and conducting hands-on cadaver courses for domestic and foreign medical colleagues, as well as in the development processes of medical device manufacturing companies.
Since 2020, he has been the Institute’s doctor responsible for cadaver donations. He has been the head of the Interdisciplinary Cadaver Operating Room since its construction.
