Ádám Albert often juxtaposes different material qualities and media in his research-based works. Some elements of his installation Shape-shifting Entity are worth examining in their own right, as each of them reflects on a different aspect of cancer. Cancer is a disease that develops from abnormal cell proliferation and malfunction. In contrast, when a rock, such as marble, is formed, it is the imperfections and impurities that create the patterns and shiny details that are considered beautiful. The organic and mechanically manufactured elements of the object composition evoke the human body through the combination of a spinal column and a rib cage, while a 3D animation models the reproduction of cells very specifically. The work is completed by a soundtrack that reflects on the disease on two levels: on a personal level on hospital scenes, on the tension of waiting in the corridor, and in a broader context on cancer as a metaphor and a social phenomenon. The video and the text have no beginning and no end: the spectator can join in at any time.
