It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 2013 Semmelweis Symposium, the major annual scientific event at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary.

The 2013 Semmelweis Symposium will be dedicated to Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets in inflammatory diseases. Our aim is to bring together a very diverse audience from different but closely related fields, from different geographical locations, and from different career paths and stages. Participants wiill include clinical rheumatologists and immunologists, basic biomedical scientists and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry. Invited speakers will come from all around the world including Europe, Japan and both coasts of the USA. We kept our registration fees at a very low level and we will ensure that junior scientists will have ample opportunities active interaction with international leaders of the field.

The meeting will focus on understanding the function of the various inflammatory cell types, their interactions and intracellular signal transduction processes. Major subjects will include cytokine networks, interactions between immune and non-immune cells (e. g. osteoclasts or fibroblasts), tyrosine phosphorylation pathways and epigenetic regulation. Major emphasis will be placed on understanding the molecular basis of current and emerging therapies such as cytokine-targeted biological agents or small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors. A keynote lecture will be given by Sir Ravinder Maini, recipient of the Lasker award for the discovery of anti-TNF therapy of autoimmune diseases.

Attendees of the meeting will also enjoy the beauty, historical heritage and cultural richness of Budapest, a spectacular city on the two sides of the Danube in the heart of Central Europe.
