She is an excellent statistician who has been working at CTM for just over a year, but she already manages projects independently and is involved in the development of a statistical software called MetaBoostR. Karen Krisztina Fazekas was honored with the Excellent Staff Member Award by the Centre for Translational Medicine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Karen Fazekas graduated from E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd University as an applied mathematician, completing her master’s degree in stochastic process analysis. Stochastic processes are widely used as mathematical models of systems and phenomena that appear to vary in a random manner. After completing her studies, Karen worked as an automated software tester, then joined CTM as a biostatistician. \u201cI found this field appealing because biostatistics requires programming skills, and mathematical knowledge is also important in it. At the Centre, I primarily work on the meta-analyses of the Ph.D. students. I primarily assist groups focusing on dermatology, pediatrics, cardiology, and sports science, and I also support the work of the Miscellaneous Group. Although I have not worked in this field before, I have been familiar with healthcare since my husband is a clinical pharmacist here, at Semmelweis University. I was also familiar with health statistics, because of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

At CTM, Karen not only conducts meta-analyses but also participates in the development of MetaBoostR. \u201cMetaBoostR is a statistical software that helps to make it easier to apply a wide range of biostatistical models to different projects. The development of this software began before I joined the Center, and students have already been using it since last year. But the work is not over yet, as we always find ways to improve it. I am delighted that CTM conducts high-level scientific work and that I can contribute to. I enjoy dealing with cutting-edge topics and keeping my mathematical knowledge up to date.\u201d<\/p>\n
