Interest in the event exceeded expectations: the Marcus Aurelius Room in the office building at Baross Street 22 was filled to capacity, and several participants followed the lectures via a live transmission from the adjoining room.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8806 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3380-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3380-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3380-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3380-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3380-753x501.jpg 753w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3380-203x135.jpg 203w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3380.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The program was opened by\u00a0<strong>Professor P\u00e9ter Hegyi<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>2025 recipient of the Robert F. <\/strong><strong>Pitts Award <\/strong>(Semmelweis University, Centre for Translational Medicine).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-8805\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3373-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"442\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3373-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3373-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3373-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3373-753x501.jpg 753w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3373-203x135.jpg 203w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3373.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 442px) 100vw, 442px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Following th<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">e opening remarks, the highlight of the afternoon <\/span>took place: <strong>Peter Ratcliffe<\/strong>, laureate of the\u00a0<strong>2019 Nobel Prize <\/strong><strong>i<\/strong><strong>n\u00a0Physiology or Medicine<\/strong>, delivered his lecture titled\u00a0<em>\u201cHow cells sense oxygen levels.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Professor Ratcliffe presented fundamental research that uncovered the mechanisms by which cells sense oxygen levels\u2014discoveries that have opened new diagnostic and therapeutic pathways across several areas of modern medicine. The lecture attracted significant scientific attention and represented the scientific apex of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The program continued with a lecture by <strong>Professor P\u00e9ter Hegyi<\/strong>, titled\u00a0<em>\u201cWhy does the Pancreas Secrete Bicarbonate?\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in which he summarized more than 25 years of research. He outlined the physiological and pathophysiological significance of pancreatic bicarbonate secretion and presented recent translational approaches in pancreatitis research.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8807 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3402-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"424\" height=\"282\" data-wp-editing=\"1\" srcset=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3402-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3402-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3402-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3402-753x501.jpg 753w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3402-203x135.jpg 203w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/tmk\/files\/2025\/12\/DOC_3402.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The final lecture of the afternoon was delivered by\u00a0<strong>Professor Shahrokh Shariat<\/strong>, leading urologist at the Medical University of Vienna and\u00a0<strong>recipient of the Gold Cystoscope Award (2017)<\/strong>. In his presentation,\u00a0<em>\u201cAcademic Health Sciences: 11 Ways to Level up your Game,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he discussed major development directions in academic health sciences and outlined strategic opportunities for career advancement.<\/p>\n<p>The program offered an especially valuable opportunity for participants of the\u00a0<strong>Translational Medicine Training Program<\/strong>, who were able to learn first-hand from internationally recognized researchers and engage directly with cutting-edge scientific findings.
