He is an excellent dentist in the field of conservative dentistry and endodontics, being not only the supervisor of Katinka L\u00e9k\u00f3-Kesj\u00e1r, but also a group leader in the Dentistry Group. In June, J\u00e1nos V\u00e1g was named Supervisor of the Month (Year-1) at the Centre for Translational Medicine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prof. V\u00e1g is the head of the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics, Semmelweis University, and he has been involved in CTM’s Ph.D. training as a group leader and as a supervisor. He currently has one first-year student, whom he assists as a supervisor together with Dr. Eszter Moln\u00e1r. \u201cOur Ph.D. student is Katinka L\u00e9k\u00f3-Kesj\u00e1r, whose topics are related to prevention. Eszter Moln\u00e1r has been researching and teaching in this area for a long time, so her contribution is a great help to Katinka. I mainly support the work with my experience in the scientific field. In her first project, Katinka is investigating the effectiveness and safety of probiotics in preventing caries. She is investigating how much probiotic mouthwashes reduce the presence of bacteria in the mouth in the short term and how much they reduce the intensity of caries in the longer term.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr L\u00e9k\u00f3-Kesj\u00e1r is progressing well with her research, and she is expected to start writing her publication this autumn. After that, she will focus on her second project. In that meta-analysis, she plans to clarify the effectiveness and safety of herbal oral care products in caries prevention. This topic is very complex because oral care products are very diverse and contain many herbal ingredients.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese research topics were chosen by Katinka, which I think is good practice in Ph.D. training. I emphasize this because I believe that academic work is not about following instructions, it’s about having an original idea. This is where supervisors can offer valuable guidance. I am very happy that I have some insight into the topics of most of the Dentistry Group members, so I can support most of them in their research. I am pleased that all the members of our group are making good progress.\u201d<\/p>\n
