The core activity of the Semmelweis Ignác College for Advanced Studies is based on the collaboration with its main partner-institution, the Selye János Doctoral College for Advanced Studies. This activity respects the principles of the University and the scientific community and serves to reach two main goals: contributing in education & talent management and conducting independent research work.

Given that the activity of the Semmelweis University itself – in addition to patient care – is also based around these two roles, our approach fits into the profile of the mother institution.

Our professional program is based on an efficient and face-to-face cooperation-based scientific tutoring program, within we establish a close connection between the PhD students of the Selye János Doctoral College for Advanced Studies and the Doctoral School. By these partner-relations, we offer a scientific career model for our admitted members by which the members gain a dedicated PhD student as a tutor as well as a research coordinating group to help them.

Currently, there are four scientific fields in which our institution is highly active, these are the followings: pharmaceutical sciences, neurobiology & behavioural sciences, molecular medicine and clinical sciences. Each scientific field is represented by approximately 10-14 members of our community (PhD and undergraduate students) and by an experienced supervisor from one of the “patronating” departments of the Semmelweis University. These “patronating” departments has a great role in quality assurance, equipment provision, professional supervision and research coordination.

Our aim is to guide our undergraduate members during their research and help them to publish in high-ranking journals as well as to participate on national and international scientific conferences. We help our students to join into the PhD program after their graduation and become a member of the Selye János Doctoral College for Advanced Studies as the next logical step during their career in science.

We believe that the collective research work come true on the level of the so called “Selye-SISZK” collaboration leads to relevant, high-impact publications and quality time of our members spent with their future profession.

To reach these goals, we provide task-oriented courses in education methodology, statistics, publication guidelines, rhetoric, data base analysis, literature research, basics of programming and lab techniques. By the “Selye-SISZK” collaboration our institution gives place for organizing scientific conferences, lectures, forums, journal clubs and posterpresentations and might become one of the leading units of the “seed. initiative” in the future.
