New paper published on lung transplantation<\/b><\/div>\n

Clinical researchers from the Department of Pulmonology have recently published their latest findings, based on international data collection, on the possibility of lung transplantation in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The study, which analyzed data from more than 4,000 IPF patients treated in 11 countries, highlighted large differences in transplantation rates between countries. Transplanted patients had a worse functional status compared to their non-transplanted counterparts, and age over 70 years and the presence of severe comorbidities were the most common exclusion reasons. The study highlights the optimal timing of lung transplantation as a therapeutic approach in relation to the disease course. It also draws attention to healthcare inequalities in the Central and Eastern European region.<\/div>\n
