{"id":2779,"date":"2026-05-13T13:09:38","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T11:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/propedeutika\/?page_id=2779"},"modified":"2026-05-13T13:09:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T11:09:38","slug":"dry-mouth-clinical-working-group","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/propedeutika\/en\/dry-mouth-clinical-working-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Dry Mouth Clinical Working Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leader: Prof. Dr. Krisztina M\u00e1rton, Head of Department<\/p>\n<p>Xerostomia is the subjective sensation of dry mouth, which may occur most frequently in the presence of reduced saliva production (hyposalivation, salivary gland hypofunction).<\/p>\n<p>Decreased salivary gland secretion can have a number of harmful oral consequences: increased risk of tooth decay, periodontal disease and oral infections, difficulty in speaking, chewing and swallowing, taste disturbance and halitosis.<\/p>\n<p>Decreased salivary gland secretion may be caused by a number of etiological factors, including systemic diseases, therapeutic irradiation of the head and neck region, electrolyte depletion, lifestyle factors and the use of various medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, topical steroids, anticholinergics, antihypertensives).
