Leader: Prof. Dr. Krisztina Márton DMD, Ph.D

The Digital Preclinical Practice Working Group started its work in autumn 2021, at the Department of General Dental Preclinical Practice of the Faculty of Dentistry.

In an increasingly digitalising world, it is essential to introduce modern technologies into dental practice and education, and to use them as widely as possible. In addition to intraoral scanners, three-dimensional printing is also gaining ground. One of the fields of its application is the additive manufacturing of dental models using 3D printers.

In our ongoing research, “Evaluating the dimensional stability of 3D printed dental casts”, we are investigating the dimensional stability of 3D printed casts constructed in different ways. By observing the deformation of the different casts over time, we are searching for the most suitable printing design that causes the least deformation. The study gained funding by the Faculty Research Grant 2022.

The activities of the working group also include the modernisation of the teaching facilities of the Department of General Dental Preclinical Practice. The long-term goal is to replace the gypsum casts used in the education practices with 3D printed casts, which have better mechanical resistance and a longer lifespan.
