The postdoctoral fellow and research team will investigate the radiation protective mechanism of action of lysophosphatidic acid analogs. Specifically, we are interested in determining the regulation of signalosomes that are responsible for the augmentation of DNA repair and reduction of apoptosis elicited by the long-duration activation of the lysophosphatidic acid receptor 2. A particular focus of these studies is on the adapter protein encoded by the immediate-early gene product IEX-1. IEX-1 has the ability to form supramolecular complexes with the AKT and ERK1/2 kinases, inhibits the PP2A phosphatase and leads to activation of DNA-dependent Protein Kinase, which in turn promotes high-fidelity double-strand DNA repair in cells exposed to genotoxic stress.
