Scientific activities
My early scientific interest was non steroidal antiinflammatory agents and I was one of the participants (Head: professor J.Knoll) elaborating a new analgesic drug registered in Hungary and in numerous other countries (Rimazolium, Probon). My interest has later extended to opioid analgesics. I showed, that opioid antagonists are able to prevent the actions of non-opioid central nervous system depressants, like barbiturates. To study structure-activity relationships of new semisynthetic (heterocyclic) morphine derivatives became my dominating interest. Work has been directed towards the assessments of their antinociceptive actions and characterization of their pharmacological profile, main and side effects, their tolerance and dependence producing capacity, and receptor specificity in vivo and in vitro. The consequences of perinatal drug (opioids, stimulants ) exposition on maternal and offspring behaviour and on the late vulnerability were studied in rats. In the last decade in collaboration with Austrian, German, Polish and Swedish groups we described a new family of heterocyclic morphine derivatives producing peripheral site of antinociceptive action in the frame of an European Committee sponsored project (2000-2005: EU-5 (EPILA, QLRT-1999 02234).
