{"id":536,"date":"2014-09-03T12:05:45","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T10:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/patologia2\/?page_id=536"},"modified":"2024-09-09T13:21:44","modified_gmt":"2024-09-09T11:21:44","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/patologia2\/en\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About the 2nd Department of Pathology"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Background<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Department of Pathology, Forensic and Insurance Medicine (formerly 2nd Department of Pathology) dates back to 1894; its first director was Ott\u00f3 Pertik (1895-1913). It was at the Department that \u00d6d\u00f6n Krompecher described basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of malignant disease, which came to be referred to as the Krompecher tumour all around the world. The 2nd Department of Pathology has shared its building with the Department of Forensic Medicine since 1948.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Education<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pathology is taught to third-year medical students in Hungarian, English, and German. For two semesters, the students have lectures in pathology for 60 hours, and attend autopsy and histopathology courses for 120 hours. Higher grade students take part in the activities of the Students\u2019 Scientific Association. The Department participates in the resident program of Semmelweis University, supporting the training of future specialists in pathology.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Research<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Prof. Dr. J\u00f3zsef T\u00edm\u00e1r<\/strong><br \/>\nUsing genomic techniques, we have identified new melanoma specific markers, such as P2X7, RyR2, endonexin, CB1receptor and CD44 splice-pattern, with the latter seeming to show adequate specificity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Prof. Dr. Zsuzsa Schaff<\/strong><br \/>\nWe have conducted studies on the factors influencing development of chronic liver diseases, including liver carcinomas.
