Nearly 20 million cases of newly discovered malignant tumors are registered worldwide, and 100,000 of them in Hungary. Unfortunately, more than 10 million people die from the disease. Malignant tumors are a collective name for more than 200 different diseases. The diagnostics and therapy of cancer diseases is one of the fastest developing areas of international medicine. Due to all these factors, active research work at the Department, in addition to patient care and education, is extremely important.

Our multidisciplinary research team – which includes not only medical colleagues but also a biostatistician, biologist, coordinator, chemist and other specialists – is responsible for coordinating research conducted at the National Institute of Oncology and Semmelweis University.
