The delegation visited several universities, including Saitama Medical University, Josai International University and the International University of Health and Welfare. Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l was also conferred upon the title Doctor Honoris Causa by Josai International University.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2016\/04\/japanut.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8273\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2016\/04\/japanut-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"japanut\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>Semmelweis University has had a relationship with Saitama Medical University (SMU) since 2002 and in honour of the delegation\u2019s visit the university organised a scientific meeting. The meeting was attended by Istv\u00e1n Szerdahelyi, Hungarian Ambassador to Japan and Gy\u00f6rgyi Juh\u00e1sz, Advisor to the Ambassador. Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l gave a presentation on the life of Ignaz Semmelweis and the importance of his discovery, while Dr. J\u00f3zsef S\u00e1ndor talked about the relationship between Semmelweis University and Saitama Medical University.<\/p>\n<p>During the ceremonial part of the scientific meeting the Silver Grade Pro Universitate Award was handed over to Professor Mashami Bessho by Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l. Professor Yoshitaka Tsuji and Professor Masako Saito were awarded with Semmelweis University\u2019s certificate of appreciation. The meeting was concluded by the opening ceremony of an exhibition on Ignaz Semmelweis.<a href=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2016\/04\/japanut3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8272\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2016\/04\/japanut3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"japanut3\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The delegation also participated in the opening ceremony of SMU\u2019s academic year and the so-called White Coat Ceremony, when 4<sup>th<\/sup> year students received their personalised operating gowns with their names embroidered on them from the leaders of SMU and the Hungarian guests. This tradition symbolises the 4<sup>th<\/sup> year students\u2019 readiness to start their clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p>Semmelweis University\u2019s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculty of Health Sciences have had a successful cooperative relationship with Josai International University for several years, which celebrates the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of its foundation in 2016. The opening ceremony of the university\u2019s academic year was celebrated with the attendance of 2,800 first-year students, who were greeted by Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l\u2019s welcome speech. He handed over the Silver Grade Pro Universitate Award to Professor Noriko Mizut\u00e1nak, Chancellor of Josai International University and was also conferred upon the title Doctor Honoris Causa. The opening ceremony was followed by a short encounter with Hungarian students studying at Josai International University.<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo Medical University with its hundred years of <a href=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2016\/04\/RS47644_KA-20160412-IMG_0602-scr.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8274 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2016\/04\/RS47644_KA-20160412-IMG_0602-scr-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"RS47644_KA-20160412-IMG_0602-scr\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>history was also visited by Semmelweis University\u2019s delegation. During the meeting the two parties agreed on developing a cooperative relationship focusing on student and staff exchange, which would be similar to the bilateral agreement in effect with Saitama Medical University.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l and Dr. J\u00f3zsef S\u00e1ndor also met with Professor Masaki Kitajim\u00e1val, Honorary Doctor of Semmelweis University and Rector of the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) in Tokyo.
