{"id":5424,"date":"2019-11-27T09:47:46","date_gmt":"2019-11-27T08:47:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/nki\/?p=5424"},"modified":"2019-11-27T09:50:09","modified_gmt":"2019-11-27T08:50:09","slug":"senior-medical-student-program-in-the-u-s-a-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/nki\/2019\/11\/27\/senior-medical-student-program-in-the-u-s-a-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Senior Medical Student Program in the U.S.A. &#8211; Houston"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Study in Houston, TX<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.houstonmethodist.org\/\">Houston Methodist Hospital<\/a> has entered into an agreement with the four Hungarian medical universities that teach medicine to provide 12 week credit-bearing senior electives to medical students who are in their 6th year of education (apply for the program during 5th year)<\/p>\n<p>The rotations begin four times a year. The exact dates will be determined by HMAA at the beginning of 2020 (shortly after interview). Total 12 students can participate (3 students per 12 week period).<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the Program is to facilitate the exchange of medical students as well as expand the experience and knowledge between the involved medical universities. With this program the HMAA allows students develop improved medical knowledge and establish long term professional relationships, that in turn fosters improved healthcare in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>This program is sponsored and managed by the <strong>HUNGARIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA, HMAA (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hmaa.org\">www.hmaa.org<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Students may take the following electives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vascular Surgery\/Surgery<\/li>\n<li>Anesthesiology\/Intensive Care<\/li>\n<li>Neurology\/Stroke Unit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* Please note that these electives are subject to availability at the time of the rotation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Financing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students are expected to cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Round trip air transportation<\/li>\n<li>Health insurance<\/li>\n<li>Medical liability\/Malpractice\u00a0insurance is\u00a01000 USD for 3 months<\/li>\n<li>Meal costs<\/li>\n<li>Housing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Financial Support:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pallas Ath\u00e9n\u00e9 Innov\u00e1ci\u00f3s \u00e9s Geopolitikai Alap\u00edtv\u00e1ny (PAIGEO): estimated 2,050 USD support (per person for 3 months based on the 2019-2020 academic year stipend) for maximum 4 of the Hungarian* students (per academic year) who participate in the Houston Exchange Program (no need for additional application, the decision made by the HMAA based on the interview and application results).<\/li>\n<li>Campus Mundi (individual application is needed!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* elegibility: only for 4 of the Hungarian students (per academic year) who participate in the Houston Exchange Program and are from the Hungarian Language Program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who can apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The program is open to students of all four Hungarian medical universities. Medical students who are in their 5th year of education at the beginning of September 2019 or those who are in their 6th year of education at the beginning of September 2019 and plan to do their 6th year in two units, so that the second unit would start from September 2020. <strong>Medical students with Hungarian heritage may apply from both the Hungarian and English language programs. Only HMAA Hungary Chapter members can apply<\/strong> for the exchange program (membership is free for medical students, for further information and application visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hmaa.org\/chapters\/hungary\/\">Hungary Chapter<\/a>\u00a0page).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Students must apply only one location from the HMAA Exchange Programs! It is not possible to apply for more (Buffalo, Houston)!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications must be emailed by December 10, 2019\u00a0by midnight (CET). Applications emailed later than this date will not be accepted. Only online applications will be accepted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements (all should be submitted by email in one pdf document named as the applicant):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed Application Form<\/li>\n<li>Letter of recommendation from the Dean (in English)\u00a0\u2013 scanned original<\/li>\n<li>Hungarian and English credit transcript from year 1 onwards \u2013 scanned original<\/li>\n<li>Statement of the medical student status \u2013 scanned original<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum vitae (in English) \u2013 scanned original signed<\/li>\n<li>Letter of motivation\/intent (in English) \u2013 scanned original signed<\/li>\n<li>Passport size photo \u2013 scanned original<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The application must be complete, otherwise it will be automatically rejected.<\/p>\n<p>For further information contact the program coordinator.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The personal interview will take place on the February 10-11, 2020\u00a0in Budapest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>All students must submit a written <u>EXIT INTERVIEW<\/u> to the Department of International Relations of Semmelweis University, to the HMAA and to the HMAA Hungary Chapter after the end of the exchange program.
