<\/p>\nFollowing the online information session held in autumn 2025 on research opportunities in France, a PhD student from Semmelweis University successfully applied for the Campus France Excellence Hongrie scholarship. Dr. Katinka Tarn\u00f3czi, a second-year PhD student and resident at the Department of Pharmacodynamics, will be able to carry out research in Lille for three months with the support of a jointly supervised doctoral scholarship.<\/p>\n
In October 2025, the Directorate of International Relations and Alumni Affairs of Semmelweis University organized an online information session in cooperation with the French Embassy in Budapest and Campus France Hongrie. The aim of the event was to present study and research scholarship opportunities in France to master\u2019s students, PhD students and researchers of Semmelweis University.<\/p>\n
Campus France is the official agency of the French government responsible for promoting French higher education internationally and supporting international students, doctoral candidates and researchers wishing to study or conduct research in France. In Hungary, the Campus France office operates at the French Institute in Budapest.<\/p>\n
Campus France\u2019s excellence scholarship programs primarily support applicants with outstanding academic or scientific achievements. Doctoral scholarships particularly promote international scientific cooperation and joint doctoral programs, while research and postdoctoral programs offer opportunities to carry out research in laboratories in France.<\/p>\n
Dr. Katinka Tarn\u00f3czi obtained her pharmacy degree at Semmelweis University and began her doctoral studies at the Doctoral School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in September 2024. She currently works as a second-year PhD student and resident at the Department of Pharmacodynamics. Her doctoral research examines the role of gangliosides in the biology of glioblastoma and in the regulation of the tumor microenvironment.![\"\"](\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/nki\/files\/2026\/06\/Tarnoczi_Katinka_kep-300x400.jpg\")

\u201cGlycobiology and glycosphingolipid research constitute a relatively narrow field, and only a few researchers in Hungary work in this area. For this reason, I consider building international connections particularly important. The research group in Lille is one of the leading centers in this field, so the scholarship offers me the opportunity to learn new methods and gain knowledge from leading researchers in the discipline,\u201d said Katinka Tarn\u00f3czi.<\/p>\n
The jointly supervised doctoral scholarship of Campus France Excellence Hongrie not only supports research mobility, but also encourages the development of long-term international scientific cooperation. For Dr. Katinka Tarn\u00f3czi, the scholarship also means that working under the guidance of a French supervisor can enrich her doctoral research with new professional perspectives.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope that this research period will not merely be a few months of mobility, but the next step in a long-term collaboration that may also create opportunities for joint research, publications and the development of scientific connections in the future,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
The interest in the Campus France scholarship program and the success of a Semmelweis University PhD student both indicate that the university\u2019s French relations are becoming increasingly active. Dr. B\u00e9la Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University, also discussed opportunities for further strengthening these ties with Jonathan Lac\u00f4te, French Ambassador to Hungary, in March 2026. The meeting addressed, among other topics, researcher mobility, the PHC Balaton program, and opportunities to strengthen French-Hungarian scientific relations.<\/p>\n
