A senior delegation from Kunming Medical University made an official visit to Semmelweis University on 17 April 2026. The primary aim of the visit was to further strengthen the institutional partnership and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities. Over the past years, Kunming Medical University has been one of the most active and reliable partners in the GEC-Semmelweis programme, with its students regularly participating in the university\u2019s international academic initiatives.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The delegation was led by Prof. Li Lihua, Vice President of Kunming Medical University. Members of the delegation included Huang Xu, Director of Human Resources, Gou Haiyun, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, and Gan Jianjun, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs. Becky Lau, General Manager of ASI Global Budapest, played a coordinating role in facilitating communication between the parties through the GEC Academy\u2019s international partnership network. Founded in 2016 by graduates and faculty members of Ivy League universities, the GEC Academy provides project-based learning (PBL) programmes aimed at enhancing students\u2019 research, collaboration, presentation, and academic writing skills.<\/p>\n

Semmelweis University was represented by Dr. \u00c9va Szab\u00f3 Feket\u00e9n\u00e9, Vice-Rector for Strategy and Development, together with the leadership and representatives of the Directorate of International Relations and Alumni Affairs.<\/p>\n

During the discussions, Dr. Tam\u00e1s Heged\u00fcs, Director for the Directorate, presented Semmelweis University, highlighting its strong international embeddedness, its high-quality practice-oriented training system, and the continuous development of its research infrastructure. He also emphasized the university\u2019s expanding relations with China and the growing number of Chinese students, which clearly reflects the importance of educational cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Chinese delegation, Prof. Li Lihua underlined that Kunming Medical University attaches great importance to its relationship with Semmelweis University. She noted that the cooperation has already proven successful, particularly in the area of student programmes.<\/p>\n

The discussions identified several key directions for future cooperation, including the expansion of student exchange programmes, strengthening mutual campus visits and cultural activities, and further developing joint training programmes at master\u2019s and doctoral level in the fields of clinical medicine, pharmacy, and mental health.<\/p>\n

The possibility of expanding both online and in-person courses, as well as extending credit recognition, was also raised. The delegation further expressed strong interest in joint training initiatives and dual degree programmes. At the same time, Semmelweis University\u2019s commitment to \u201cbedside education\u201d was highlighted as a core principle of clinical training. In this context, the detailed mapping of potential areas of cooperation was emphasized as a necessary step for defining future joint initiatives.<\/p>\n

The primary purpose of the visit was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Semmelweis University and Kunming Medical University. The five-year agreement establishes a framework for long-term academic cooperation and provides the basis for the implementation of the objectives formulated during the discussions, including the further development of educational, research, and mobility programmes.<\/p>\n\r\n [slb_exclude]\r\n
