With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, a governmental and healthcare delegation from Guangdong Province of the People’s Republic of China visited Hungary between 8 and 11 April 2026. Considering the outstanding importance of Hungarian-Chinese relations, the programme included an official visit to Semmelweis University.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The healthcare delegation was led by Ms. Liu Minjuan, President of the Guangdong Province Hospital Association. The thirteen-member delegation represented a wide range of healthcare and medical fields, including hospital management, emergency medicine, intensive care, orthopaedics and spinal surgery, oncology, pathology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as pharmaceutical and immunological research. The delegation comprised senior healthcare professionals and institutional leaders from across Guangdong Province.<\/p>\n

The delegation was welcomed on behalf of Semmelweis University by Levente B\u00e9la V\u00e1g\u00f3, Deputy Director of the Directorate of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, together with colleagues from the Directorate. During the meeting, the participants discussed potential areas of cooperation in medical education, health sciences training, research activities, and clinical placements. The University presentation provided an overview of Semmelweis University\u2019s key achievements and strategic objectives as well as an introduction to the University\u2019s extensive international network, its growing community of international students, and the Harvard-Semmelweis Program operated in cooperation with Harvard Medical School. Emphasis was placed on the significant number of Chinese students studying at Semmelweis University and the University\u2019s established network of partnerships with Chinese higher education institutions.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Chinese delegation, Ms. Liu Minjuan presented the cooperation priorities of Guangdong Province\u2019s healthcare system. She emphasized their openness to developing joint educational programmes in collaboration with universities and hospitals throughout the province. Huang Li, Director of the Guangdong Institute of Modern Hospital Management, highlighted that Guangdong is China\u2019s strongest provincial economy and noted that the Guangdong Province Hospital Association, with nearly 900 member hospitals, is one of the country\u2019s largest professional healthcare networks. He also expressed the delegation\u2019s high regard for Semmelweis University as a leading European medical institution and underlined their intention to establish a long-term professional partnership.<\/p>\n

The discussion also touched upon the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Several members of the delegation highlighted their achievements in education and research in the field of TCM, identifying potential areas of cooperation with related educational and professional activities at Semmelweis University. Both sides agreed that future collaboration should primarily focus on practical and mutually beneficial initiatives. In this context, the possibility of organising short-term training programmes was raised, along with opportunities for Chinese students studying at Semmelweis University to complete clinical placements at partner hospitals in Guangdong Province.<\/p>\n

Following the discussions, the delegation gained first-hand insight into the University\u2019s clinical operations through a visit to the Central Patient Care Building. \u00a0They also visited the Departments of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy and Obstetrics and Gynaecology, where Professor Zsolt Moln\u00e1r, Director of the Department, and Dr. S\u00e1ndor Valent, Chief Physician, respectively, presented the departments\u2019 activities and patient care practices.<\/p>\n\r\n [slb_exclude]\r\n
