Institute of Medical Microbiology has a long history, in 2018 we celebrated the 70th anniversary of its existence<\/strong><\/span>. Brief overview of the Jubilee celebration is available here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Led by Endre H\u0151gyes<\/strong><\/span>, education of microbiology originally started in 1883<\/strong><\/span> at the General Institute of Pathology and Bacteriology It operated in \"\"<\/a>the former Pasteur Institute in Budapest<\/strong>.<\/span> Microbiology as an independent subject was educated for the first time in 1948<\/strong><\/span> at Semmelweis University by a separated organizational unit called Institute of Bacteriology and Immunology<\/strong>.<\/span> It was renamed by its first director, Ferenc Farag\u00f3<\/strong><\/span> as Microbiology Insitute in 1950, then from 1999<\/strong><\/span> it became known as Institute of Medical Microbiology. From 1978 <\/strong><\/span>our Institute is found on the 9-11th floor of Semmelweis University Nagyv\u00e1rad t\u00e9ri Elm\u00e9leti T\u00f6mb (NET)<\/strong><\/span> and we also have Piroska Anderlik Experimental Animalhouse <\/strong><\/span>on the 22nd floor.<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. D\u00f3ra Szab\u00f3 and Prof. Dr. Istv\u00e1n N\u00e1sz by 26th Semmelweis Symposium<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In 2017 <\/strong><\/span>we won the opportunity to organise 26th Semmelweis Symposium<\/span>. <\/strong>The two-day event \u00a0was organized under the title „New challenges in microbiology<\/em>„, where more than 30 lectures were performed. 10 foreign lecturers accepted our invitation to the symposium, our guests came from famous institutes, such as\u00a0Institut Pasteur<\/span><\/strong> (Paris) and Institute<\/strong> Karolinska <\/strong><\/span>(Stockholm). In the same year we celebrated the 90th birthday of Sz\u00e9chenyi Prize Winner Dr. Istv\u00e1n N\u00e1sz Professor emeritus<\/strong><\/span>, the founder and former director of our Institute.\u00a0<\/p>\n
