Faculty of Pharmacy
Dean | Dr. Antal István
The education in the faculty of pharmacy has been going on since 1955, with about 110-120 graduates each year. Grades consist of study groups, in the first year there are 8 of them, later this number decreases to 6.
You can manage your official affairs related to the university in the Dean’s office, within this they can help you with everyday matters in the Department of Studies. For personal administration you can go during customer reception hours to Üllői road 26. ground floor 15th room.
The five-year academic training can be divided into two major parts: in the first two years there will be basic subjects, mostly biology and chemistry related supplemented with physics. The knowledge of the last 3 years builds on these basic subjects. For the chemistry related subject’s practice part you will need a lab coat which has to be 100% cotton with long sleeves.
The internships are starting in the second year of the university, you must complete 80 hours in a pharmacy, which could be supplemented with additional hours as an optional subject. The professional subjects start from the third year, they could get acquainted with the chemistry of medicines and the study of drug compounds based on various chemical subjects. Building on biological subjects (biology, anatomy, physiology) you will get to know better the pathological function of the human body, the mechanism of action of drugs, and – far from exclusively – building on physical objects with the formulation of drugs, the path of drug in the body, and countless more.
Herbs have a priority role and pharmacists know the most about them in the healthcare system. From the third year, the focus is first on basic botanical knowledge and then on the chemistry and biology of compounds in plants.
The second part of the academic training consists of mostly internships and various legal and economic knowledge is also emphasized.
After graduating, pharmacists can easily find a job. It is possible to deal with the direct supply of medicines to the public in a public pharmacy, where the operation and management of the pharmacy is an opportunity for progress. The hospital-clinical direction is developing dynamically nowadays, more and more emphasis is being placed on work next to the patient bed, participation in team work that plays a key role in the patient’s healing. In the industrial direction, there are a wide variety of areas, and it is a great advantage to have a wide vision gained during training; we mean a word with chemists, chemical engineers and doctors. Post-graduate opportunities also include a doctoral school and various official positions.
