ERASMUS+ STUDENT MOBILITY PROGRAM

Call for Applications for the 2nd Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Year

Semmelweis University Faculty of Health Sciences (hereinafter: SE-ETK) calls for applications for the Erasmus+ Student Mobility Program for the 2nd (spring) Semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year that is open for its students.

What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ uniting several currently running programs (ex.: “Lifelong Learning Program”) is the new program of the European Union that includes the fields of education, training, youth and sports.

Students studying in higher-level education or attending vocational training programs are entitled to participate in the program (studies, work-based learning, traineeship).

General information

In the framework of the Erasmus+ Program, the exchange of students in the case of study mobility is based on agreements concluded between institutions of higher education.

In the frame of the Erasmus+ Program, outgoing students can spend minimum 2 but maximum 12 months in European partner institutions. In the case of traineeship a minimum of 2 months training period and in the case of studies a minimum of 3 months study period can be applied for. The Erasmus Committee of the Faculty makes the final decision on the length of the stay abroad.

Applicants go through a short language interview organised by the Faculty where they have to demonstrate their foreign language communication skills. A requirement of winning the scholarship is the existence of the student’s communication skills in the language of the training/study abroad.

If the application is positively assessed, the student gets an opportunity to travel abroad – as defined in the present call for applications –, whereby he/she has to fulfil the study obligations undertaken.

The scholarship can only be realised if all three parties have signed the learning agreement: the student, the sending institution, and the receiving institution.

If the winner of the application earns zero credit (ECTS) during his/her stay abroad, he/she is obliged to pay back the whole sum of the financial grant to the university.

Credits gained abroad are recognised in all cases in accordance with the previous discussion and with Departmental coordinator.

Financial grant/ Places open for application

Erasmus+ Program provides grant support – as defined in the present call for applications – for the scholarship abroad that contributes to cover the emerging expenses of the student (travel, accommodation, catering, insurance, etc.) but not necessarily covers the actual expenses. The sum of the financial grant that can be received according to the present application – depending on the length of the scholarship and on the receiving country – is approx. 300-400-500 euro/month. All other emerging expenses are borne by the student. Grants are transferred to the student via bank transfer, in most cases before the travel of the student.

The places open for application are merely options. The Faculty’s Erasmus Committee decides on the places and the lengths of stay on the basis of the budget and the limits of the financial grant. In the case of a successful application, they can travel in their 4th (last) semester.

Both Hungarian and foreign citizens can apply for the scholarship, but foreign citizens cannot apply for a place in their home country.

All submitted applications are evaluated by the Erasmus Committee of the Faculty according to the above mentioned criteria and according to the recommendations of the departments until 1 October 2021. Students will be informed about the results via e-mail by the Faculty’s Erasmus coordinator.

If the winner applicant does not want to use the grant judged to his/her part, or does not want to participate in the scholarship even in the case of a successful application, he/she is obliged to forthwith inform the Faculty’s Erasmus coordinator in writing. The place applied for by this student is given to the next student on the waiting list who met the application criteria but won no financial grant.

Agreement, report and other obligations

Students who win the scholarship must have active student status in the semester of the travel.

The sending institution concludes a study agreement concerning the fulfilment of the study requirements with the student and with the receiving institution, and then it concludes a grant contract with the student before the student’s travel that includes the whole sum of the won financial grant. The study agreement can be modified only with the consent of all the three parties.

In the learning agreement for study/traineeship

  • the receiving institution undertakes to provide the opportunity for the student to fulfil the study plan included in the learning agreement,
  • the student undertakes to fulfil the obligations included in the learning agreement.

After successfully completing the studies abroad, the receiving institution gives a Transcript of Records to the student in accordance with the study agreement and grant contract.

After finishing the studies abroad, the student has to submit a closing report in the format set in the grant contract to the Erasmus coordinator within 30 days after his/her arrival back to Hungary. The report submitted by the student serves at the same time as the request for settling the balance of the grant. At the end of the abroad studies and after returning back, the student is obliged to personally present the documents received abroad to the Erasmus coordinator and at the department.

If the student fails to submit his/her report before the expiration of the deadline or submits it incorrectly, or he/she used up the financial grant or a part of it uncontractually, or earns zero credit during his/her stay abroad, he/she is obliged to pay back the whole sum of the financial grant to the university.
