The bright and spacious main lobby of the Basic Medical Science Centre, complete with a giant Christmas tree, provided a fittingly festive venue for the occasion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The evening\u2019s programme was opened by the Semmelweis Kamarazenekar (Semmelweis Chamber Orchestra), an ensemble of the University\u2019s musically inclined doctors. Accompanied on some pieces by the Hatvani Polif\u00f3nia K\u00f3rus (Polyphony Choir of Hatvan), the group performed compositions by composers including J.S. Bach, H.L. Hassler, and Mendelssohn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-984\" title=\"Christmas Concert 2010\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2010\/12\/1-1024x459.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas Concert 2010\" width=\"543\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Semmelweis Vegyeskar (Semmelweis Mixed Choir) took to the stage next with Hungarian renditions of traditional Christmas carols. With over six decades of history, the group was formed in 1947 as the L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Hospital\u2019s Mixed Choir.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The second half of the concert gave the young medical students a chance to showcase their talents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Medikus Zenekar (Medic Orchestra) put on an energetic performance of J. S. Bach\u2019s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 and A. Corelli\u2019s Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Last, but certainly not least, the Medik\u00f3rus (Medichoir) brought a fun-filled end to the show, as they invited the audience to sing along to popular Christmas songs in Hungarian, English and German.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-985\" title=\"Guests enjoy a mug of mulled wine after the show\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2010\/12\/2.jpg\" alt=\"Guests enjoy a mug of mulled wine after the show\" width=\"540\" height=\"258\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A standing reception brought the evening to a festive close, as guests mingled and chatted over mugs of mulled wine and traditional Hungarian Christmas pastries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">(Translated by Gina G\u00f6nczi)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The holiday season got off to an early start at Semmelweis University with the annual Christmas Concert held on December 8.
