Dedicated in honour of Professor Andr\u00e1s Sp\u00e4t\u2019s 70th birthday, the conference featured a special celebratory event to mark this occasion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-935\" title=\"Celebration in honour of Andr\u00e1s Sp\u00e4t's 70th birthday\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2010\/11\/2-1024x305.jpg\" alt=\"Celebration in honour of Andr\u00e1s Sp\u00e4t's 70th birthday\" width=\"542\" height=\"162\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rector Tivadar Tulassay opened the three-day symposium, which featured 28 absorbing presentations by both national and international professors and researchers. Many of the attendees also took advantage of the opportunity to present their own research at the conference\u2019s poster sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-937\" title=\"Semmelweis Symposium 2010\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2010\/11\/12-1024x333.jpg\" alt=\"Semmelweis Symposium 2010\" width=\"542\" height=\"176\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A special highlight of the second day of the symposium was the presentation of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Professor Dr. Roger Y. Tsien from the University of California, San Diego. (A distinguished scientist, Dr. Tsien was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry &#8211; along with Osamu Shomomurava and Martin Chalfie &#8211; for the discovery and development of the Green Fluorescent Protein.) After receiving his honorary doctor title, Dr. Tsien gave a fascinating lecture entitled \u201cBreeding and building molecules to spy on cells and tumors\u201d, about a revolutionary diagnostic procedure he is currently working on developing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-936\" title=\"Dr. Roger Y. Tsien receives Doctor Honoris Causa title\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2010\/11\/3-1023x374.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Roger Y.
