Presided over by Rector Tivadar Tulassay, the ceremony was a fitting start to the 241st academic year of this prestigious institution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-853\" title=\"Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l (Vice-Rector for General Affairs), Dr. Mikl\u00f3s R\u00e9thelyi (Minister of National Resources), Dr. Tivadar Tulassay (Rector) and Dr. J\u00f3zsef P\u00e1link\u00e1s (President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences)\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2010\/09\/21.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l (Vice-Rector for General Affairs), Dr. Mikl\u00f3s R\u00e9thelyi (Minister of National Resources), Dr. Tivadar Tulassay (Rector) and Dr. J\u00f3zsef P\u00e1link\u00e1s (President of the Hungarian Academy of Science)\" width=\"548\" height=\"226\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The University was honoured by the presence of numerous eminent guests, including foreign diplomats accredited to Budapest, politicians and university rectors. 1588 freshmen \u2013 637 of these international \u2013 were also in attendance, filling the venue to near-capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Co-hosts Bianca Croy, a second-year dentistry student, and Andr\u00e1s P\u00e9tsch from the Directorate of International Relations, reflected the trilingual nature of the University, leading the program in Hungarian, German and English.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Following the Rector\u2019s opening remarks, Mikl\u00f3s R\u00e9thelyi, Minister of National Resources and former rector of Semmelweis University, and J\u00f3zsef P\u00e1link\u00e1s, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, delivered highly pertinent speeches in honour of the occasion. The Foreign Students&#8217; Secretariat greeted the University\u2019s new international students, with Director M\u00e1rk Kollai welcoming the students of the English Language Programme, while Magdolna Fony\u00f3, Head of the Secretariat, welcomed those studying in German.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-852 aligncenter\" title=\"First-year students take the solemn oath\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2010\/09\/3-1024x394.jpg\" alt=\"First-year students take the solemn oath\" width=\"567\" height=\"217\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Next, all freshmen students took the solemn oath in their chosen language of instruction.
