Semmelweis University has been listed among the world\u2019s top 200 higher education institutions in its subject area (Medical and Health), further improving on last year\u2019s position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026<\/a>. The university has managed to improve on its previous results in almost all parameters examined, being ranked 186th in the world and remaining the leading medical university in Hungary as well as Central and Eastern Europe.<\/div>\n

Times Higher Education\u2019s recently published, 2026 Medical and Health ranking features 1,230 universities from 102 countries around the world. Semmelweis University has been ranked in the 176-200 range, moving up twenty places from its 2025 position to become the 186th best in the world in its subject area.<\/p>\n

\n

The university has managed to improve in almost all key indicators, most significantly in research quality and teaching, but it has also achieved higher scores in industry and research environment. Among many other things, the citation rate of the university\u2019s scientific publications, as well as the reputation and excellence of our research have continued to increase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cOur continuous, persistent, and high-quality work is slowly but surely bearing fruit. The current results show that we are moving in the right direction and getting closer to our goal of becoming one of the world\u2019s 100 best universities,\u201d said Rector Dr. B\u00e9la Merkely. As he added:<\/p>\n

We are proud that Semmelweis University ranks highest in its field not only nationally but also in the Central and Eastern European region, and that it is considered the largest medical and health sciences training institution in Europe after Charles University in Prague in terms of student numbers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Among Hungarian universities offering medical and health sciences education, the University of P\u00e9cs ranks in the 401-500, while the University of Debrecen and the University of Szeged in the 501-600 range. The top three institutions in the world ranking are the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard University.<\/p>\n
