The list of the most cited researchers has been published again: this year four Hungarians, including two professors from Semmelweis University, have been included. Dr. P\u00e9ter Ferdinandy, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations and Dr. Bal\u00e1zs Gy\u0151rffy, Head of the Department of Bioinformatics are the authors of publications that are in the top 1 percent of the most cited in their fields.\u00a0<\/div>\n

The Web of Science, a multidisciplinary international scientific database, lists a total of 7,000 researchers from around the world. The editors of the list based their ranking on the most highly cited publications published between 2011 and 2021, with up to 30 authors, i.e. those publications that ranked in the top 1% in their field by number of citations. In the scientific world, citation, i.e. the number of citations to research-based publications, is the measure of scientific impact. The more highly cited a discipline is, the more highly cited publications are needed to get someone mentioned in the rankings.<\/p>\n

The 2021 list of Highly Cited Researchers includes two professors of Semmelweis University: Dr. P\u00e9ter Ferdinandy, Vice Rector for Science and Innovations, Director of the Institute of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, and Dr. Bal\u00e1zs Gy\u0151rffy, Head of the Department of Bioinformatics, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA).<\/p>\n

Dr. P\u00e9ter Ferdinandy has 14 highly cited publications and was included in the Highly Cited Researchers list for the fifth time. In 2014 and 2017 he was included in the pharmacology and toxicology category, and in 2020, 2021 and 2022 in the cross-field category. Dr. Bal\u00e1zs Gy\u0151rffy has 13 highly cited publications, also in the cross-field category.<\/p>\n

The other two Hungarian researchers on the list are Dr. Zsolt Demetrovics from E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd University (ELTE) and Dr. Attila Szolnoki from the Hungarian Academy of Science (MTA).\u00a0<\/p>\n
