Hundreds will take advantage of the new student spaces every year that have been handed over at Semmelweis University\u2019s Department of Pulmonology. As part of a faculty-funded development, a new locker room, washroom block, and an office space supporting education were established. The renovation of the building\u2019s interior in T\u00f6m\u0151 Street is scheduled to continue with the reconstruction of the lecture hall.<\/div>\n

The development of Semmelweis University\u2019s Department of Pulmonology in T\u00f6m\u0151 Street has reached yet another important stage. As part of the investment funded by the Faculty of Medicine, new student spaces were created; brand new furniture was acquired, and the canal system, floor and suspended ceiling were renewed in the respective area as well.<\/p>\n\r\n [slb_exclude]\r\n

“Thanks to the development, students are going to be able to use two new rooms: a locker room connected with a washroom area, and an administrative office supporting the everyday processes of education”, Dr. Veronika M\u00fcller, director of the clinic said.<\/p>\n

She explained that due to COVID care, students are expected to start their tasks only after a full change of clothes, and as a result of their schedules, they usually spend lunchtime in the institution – so it was important for them to change and eat in a comfortable setting. Approximately 25-30 students arrive at the Department of Pulmonology for each block of classes, but the new spaces can serve up to sixty students at a time, she added.<\/p>\n

During the tour, Dr. B\u00e9la Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University emphasized that the overall well-being and comfort of the students are essential for high quality education, which is why he considers such developments of vital importance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a pleasure to be able to hand over these new spaces at the Department of Pulmonology, one of the centers of COVID care within the university. Besides the high-quality treatment of various lung diseases, COVID care is uninterrupted: 36 patients are currently being treated here,\u201d said the rector.<\/p>\n

Clinical education requires special environment and equipment, Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Kellermayer, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs dean, I strongly support to development of the infrastructure for high-quality medical training. The revival of student spaces and rooms serving education at the Department of Pulmonology is an important stage, which was realized with the financial support of the Faculty of Medicine,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n

As for future plans concerning the renewal of the building in T\u00f6m\u0151 Street, the next step is the renovation of the lecture hall, for which resources have been allocated at the faculty level already, the dean said.<\/p>\n

According to B\u00e1lint Tripolszky, President of the Students\u2019 Union of Semmelweis University, the new spaces represent yet another development which reflects the needs of students.<\/p>\n

\u201cHundreds of students will take advantage of the new facilities at this clinic throughout the academic year. This development is significant, and is considered to be one of those investments which have been realized in consultation with the Students’ Union assessing preliminary student needs as well,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n
