Semmelweis University has improved its position in multiple discipline categories in the 2022 US News Best Global Universities ranking. The university\u2019s performance was evaluated based on indicators in 8 disciplines of medicine and healthcare. Similarly to last year, Semmelweis University achieved the leading position among Hungarian universities. It was also able to maintain its highest position in \u201cCardiology and cardiovascular systems\u201d, improving 32 positions since last year and reached 55th place.<\/div>\n

Semmelweis University landed in good positions in 8 subject areas of the 2022 “US News Best Global Universities” ranking. Semmelweis University achieved the best result in the category \u201ccardiac and cardiovascular systems\u201d (the only Hungarian university in this category) improving to 55th from 87th position last year.\u00a0 After its 112th place in 2020, Semmelweis University was able to advance 57 places in two years and left universities such as the Heidelberg University, Cambridge University and Utrecht University behind. Harvard University continues to dominate the list.<\/p>\n

The indicators show that Semmelweis University has a distinguished place in the cardiovascular scientific category, as it has the world\u2019s 4th<\/sup> internationally most cited publications. This indicator shows the percentage of all the scientific publications of Semmelweis University in this topic, which belong to 1% of the most cited publications of the world. Semmelweis University is ranked 6th in international collaboration and 15th in \u201cnormalized citation impact\u201d within the cardiology and cardiovascular systems category. The \u201cnormalized citation impact\u201d indicator reflects the number of papers that have been assigned as being in the top 10% of the most highly cited papers in the world for their respective fields.<\/p>\n

One of the most cited authors between 2016-2020 in the category \u201ccardiology and cardiovascular systems\u201d are rector dr. B\u00e9la Merkely, head of the Heart and Vascular Center (number of citations: 3540, publications: 181, \u201cHighly Cited\u201d publications: 5), dr. P\u00e9ter Ferdinandy, Vice Rector for science and innovation and head of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy (number of citations: 1712, publications: 30, \u201cHighly Cited publications\u201d:7) and dr. P\u00e1l Maurovich Horvat, head of the Medical Imaging Center, and head of the Department of Radiology (Citations: 836, number of publications: 68).<\/p>\n

Semmelweis University has also made significant progress in the category \u201cEndocrinology and metabolism\u201d and maintained its spot as the best Hungarian university, standing at the 121th.\u00a0 The university has improved its rank in the indicator \u201cthe percentage of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited\u201d. Furthermore, within the discipline of Endocrinology and metabolism, Semmelweis University is in the world\u2019s top 100 in \u201cconferences\u201d, \u201cnormalized citation impact\u201d and \u201cinternational collaboration\u201d.<\/p>\n

SU also significantly improved its position in \u201cBiology and Biochemistry\u201d (312nd place), Cell Biology (198th<\/sup> place), Clinical Medicine (198th<\/sup> place), Molecular Biology and Genetics (344th<\/sup> place) and it is ranked 324th in Neuroscience and Behavior and 218th in Oncology.<\/p>\n
