{"id":25769,"date":"2021-04-29T14:24:15","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T12:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/?p=25769"},"modified":"2021-04-29T22:57:13","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T20:57:13","slug":"the-mobility-database-of-the-faculty-of-health-and-public-administration-supports-epidemiological-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/2021\/04\/the-mobility-database-of-the-faculty-of-health-and-public-administration-supports-epidemiological-control\/","title":{"rendered":"Mobility database of the Faculty of Health and Public Administration assists infection control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">More than two billion <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">data sets <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">related to mobile cell information<\/span> are stored <span lang=\"en-US\">in the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">management i<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">nformation <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ystem <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">supporting infection control<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, which monitors the national population mo<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">vements<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and was developed under the leadership of Semmelweis University\u2019s Faculty of Health <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and Public Administration<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> The database <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">created <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">for decision-makers can be searched on the basis of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">several<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> criteria (e.g. breakdown by settlement size, specific districts, settlements, dates) and detailed diagrams show the mo<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">vements<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of the population in a given place and period <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">during<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">COVID-19 <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">epidemic<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">The study of Hungarian experts on the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">country<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">wide analysis covering the entire period of the epidemic was published in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-021-81873-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span lang=\"en-US\">Nature Scientific Reports<\/span><\/em><\/a><span lang=\"en-US\">.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\">T<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">he management information system set up under the leadership <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Semmelweis University\u2019s Faculty of Health <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and Public Administration <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">contains<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> t<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">he daily cell information <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the country\u2019s 9 million mobile phones over the past year. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">The system includes more than two billion data records, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">however,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> it is important that this depersonali<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">z<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ed, aggregated <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">information <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">is <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">not suitable for personal identification and is<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> in accordance with data protection (GDPR) <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">laws<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201d, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">said Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Sz\u00f3cska, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Public Administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25767\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2021\/04\/RS131461_C19A9938-scr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"763\" srcset=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2021\/04\/RS131461_C19A9938-scr.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2021\/04\/RS131461_C19A9938-scr-400x254.jpg 400w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2021\/04\/RS131461_C19A9938-scr-900x572.jpg 900w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2021\/04\/RS131461_C19A9938-scr-753x479.jpg 753w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/>The national mobility tracking methodology and the management information system enabling data-based analyses were developed by the data utilization and digital working group closely connected to the Faculty of Health and Public Administration within the Epidemiological and Mathematical Modeling Working Group of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology, in cooperation with the three Hungarian mobile service providers. Their results have recently been published in the journal <em>Nature Scientific Reports<\/em>. The leading authors of the publication are Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Sz\u00f3cska, the current dean of the faculty and Dr. P\u00e9ter Ga\u00e1l, former dean.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fontos_div\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\">The methodology is based on routine data automatically recorded when using a mobile phone. It uses location data from the transmission tower transmitting the call to estimate the geographical location of the phone owner. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">We can monitor whether one transmission tower transmitted the phone to another tower or not<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, whether the owner moved between the zones or stayed at home\u201d, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Sz\u00f3cska explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\">The data stored in the system cover the entire epidemic period <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">more than one year, and can be searched by date and geographical location. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">The diagrams show processes precisely, like the migration of a large number of residents <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of Budapest <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">to the settlements <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">by<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Lake Balaton to spend the quarantine period in their holiday homes, or the fact that movement decreased by almost 30% after the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">introduction of the restrictive measures in March 2021\u201d, said Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Sz\u00f3cska.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fontos_div\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\">With the help of the information system, the effect of a restrictive measure can be accurately traced, it is possible to monitor the territorial differences and local peculiarities in the movement of people. This is why it is suitable for making high priority decisions related to infection control\u201d, Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Sz\u00f3cska emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-25768\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2021\/04\/RS131467_C19A9983-scr-267x400-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"400\" \/>Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Sz\u00f3cska highlighted the importance of the fact that during the development of the system, a unique cooperation was realized with the three Hungarian mobile service providers. The methodology can be used to prepare analyses providing support in infection control with a small financial contribution, it can be easily adapted to other countries, and it can also be made suitable for the analysis of migration between member states. It may even be used for connecting movement data with data on local infection rates. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">paper <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">was published in <\/span><em><span lang=\"en-US\">Nature Scientific Reports<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"en-US\"> on <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">15 <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">March, 2021. As the dean pointed out, the publication of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">paper<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> is of great interest both internationally and in Hungary, and the research team has received several requests for research cooperation.
