A team of 330 people, more than 1,500 high school students from all over the country and across the border, applied to <\/span>participate in the competition organized by the<\/span> Budapest Medical Students’ Association <\/span>(BMSA)<\/span>. This year\u2019s competition was held online, with the two-day final taking place on <\/span>27-28 <\/span>March.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In the 2020\/2021 <\/span>academic<\/span> year, the Semmelweis Health Competition was held for the sixth time. The main goal of the event, organized by the Budapest Medical Students’ Associatio<\/span>n (BMSA)<\/span>, is to improve the health understanding and health preservation of the high school generation, as well as to transfer basic prevention and information in an interactive and enjoyable way. Nearly 80 <\/span>BMSA <\/span>volunteers have been involved in organizing and conducting the <\/span>6<\/span>th<\/span> Semmelweis Health Competition since September 2020. The event ended after the first 3 online rounds on <\/span>27-28 <\/span>March, 2021 with the two-day final.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year’s competition was attended by 330 teams of five, more than 1,500 high school students from all over the country and across the border. A nearly 200-page long professional handout written by the heads of the prevention sections and reviewed by specialists provided support for the preparation for the competition. The topics of the 6th Semmelweis Health Competition were:<\/p>\n

Cardiovascular prevention<\/span>
\nTumor prevention<\/span>
\nHealth-conscious nutrition, sports nutrition<\/span>
\nRisk and prevention of diabetes<\/span>
\nEating disorders, fashion diets<\/span>
\nBasic resuscitation and first aid
\n<\/span>Proper <\/span>medicine<\/span> use and antimicrobial resistance
\nVaccinations
\nAlcohol prevention
\nSmoking prevention
\nDrug prevention
\nThe life and work of Ign\u00e1c Semmelweis
\nTransplantation and blood donation
\nReproductive health care
\nSexually transmitted diseases
\nExercise and sports
\n<\/span> Oral health and oral hygiene<\/span><\/p>\n

The first three rounds of the program took place online, during which the contestants had to solve simple elective as well as more complex, elaborate tasks. The teams then had to carry out a project work in their own school or place of residence with the aim of disseminating useful health information to as wide a range of people as possible. The topic of the project tasks was organized around vaccinations this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The two-day final was held online <\/span>via <\/span>Zoom. Based on the results of previous rounds, the top 36 five-person teams <\/span>were selected for the final<\/span>, and they all received the tools needed for online stations <\/span>during<\/span> the week before the <\/span>competition<\/span>, as well as Semmelweis Health Competition souvenirs.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the final, students measured their knowledge through interactive tasks, and at the stations, medical student volunteers helped them solve exciting tasks in different sections.<\/span><\/p>\n
