The award aims at acknowledging outstanding achievements of innovation based on technological-intellectual creations, engineering work and technological development. Dr. Andrea Fekete, researcher and pediatrician, associate professor of the 1<\/span><sup><span lang=\"en-US\">st<\/span><\/sup><span lang=\"en-US\"> Department of Pediatrics at Semmelweis University, executive director and co-founder of SigmaDrugs biotech <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">is among the awardees of the prize this year. The recognition was awarded to Dr. Andrea Fekete due to her merits regarding the description of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">multi-organ <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">complications caused by diabetes and the discovery of new therapeutic opportunities, as well as the identification of new target molecules and biological <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">defense<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> mechanisms in the treatment of fibrotic tissues. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">As a result of the research, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">p<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">hase <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">2 of the clinical trials<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> was started in November, in the framework of which <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">hospitalized COVID-19 patients of moderate health condition are provided with fluvoxamine therapy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23693 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2020\/12\/RS126286_C19A0021-scr-900x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"753\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2020\/12\/RS126286_C19A0021-scr-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2020\/12\/RS126286_C19A0021-scr-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2020\/12\/RS126286_C19A0021-scr-753x502.jpg 753w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2020\/12\/RS126286_C19A0021-scr-203x135.jpg 203w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/files\/2020\/12\/RS126286_C19A0021-scr.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/>A previous article written about the research team, which examines the efficiency of fluvoxamine therapy in the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis, led by Dr. Andrea Fekete, can be read <a href=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/2020\/11\/new-hungarian-patent-may-be-a-promising-treatment-for-covid19-complications\/\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The award ceremony is traditionally held in December at the Parliament, but this year\u2019s ceremony, due to the current epidemiological situation was postponed to next year. However, the publication about <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> G\u00e1bor D\u00e9nes Award can be downloaded from the official web site and can be read digitally.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span lang=\"en-US\">So far, 248 recipients have been awarded with <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> G\u00e1bor D\u00e9nes Award. This year, 7 awardees were awarded, and one person was awarded In Memoriam.
