{"id":22848,"date":"2020-10-22T13:03:55","date_gmt":"2020-10-22T11:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/?p=22848"},"modified":"2020-10-26T12:14:17","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T11:14:17","slug":"university-commemorates-1956-revolution-in-video-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/english\/2020\/10\/university-commemorates-1956-revolution-in-video-message\/","title":{"rendered":"University commemorates 1956 revolution in video message"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"lead\">Due to the pandemic, Semmelweis University is commemorating this year\u2019s 64th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 in a special video form.<\/div>\n<p>The 1956 revolution was a defining event in Hungary\u2019s 20th-century history, where Hungarians rose up against the Soviet occupation and dictatorship. The revolt began with peaceful protests by university students, and later grew into an armed uprising, which was eventually crushed by invading Soviet forces. Today, October 23 is a national holiday in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>In the following video made by the university\u2019s Directorate for Communication and Event Management, then-and-now pairs of photographs show the locations in Budapest and relating to the university where major events took place. The leaders of the university speak about the connections between the university and the events of the revolution, as well as the message of 1956.
