The Medic Orchestra is holding a major charity concert on March 10, the proceeds of which will go to benefit the children treated at Semmelweis University’s 2nd Department of Pediatrics. The department treats half of all children suffering from leukemia and cancer, and the funds raised from the concert will be used to build a playground for the clinic. The concert, which will be held in the B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k National Concert Hall of M\u00fcpa Budapest, is a special event of the event series celebrating the university’s 250th anniversary, spanning over the V4 countries, supported by the Visegrad Fund. The Semmelweis250 \u2013 International Medic Orchestra Tour is unique in that medical students of foreign partner institutions will be joining the Hungarian orchestra members.<\/div>\n

Semmelweis University is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its establishment this year, marking the occasion with a special series of events. As part of this series, the university’s Medic Orchestra will be holding a charity concert on March 10 in M\u00fcpa Budapest. Joining the orchestra for its presentation of a Mahler symphony will be students of foreign partner institutions from Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Spain.<\/p>\n

The orchestra has held several charity concerts in recent years, and has offered the proceeds from the event to build a playground for children being treated at the 2nd Department of Pediatrics. The department treats half of all children suffering from leukemia and cancer in Hungary. The current project is part of the process of renewal that has begun at the institution in recent years to improve the conditions of patients treated there.<\/p>\n

The International Medic Orchestra will go on in international tour with its 250th anniversary program, holding concerts in Trnava, Slovakia (March 12), Prague, Czech Republic (March 14) and Krakow, Poland (March 16). The unique event series is supported by the Visegrad Fund.<\/p>\n

About the Medic Orchestra<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Medic Orchestra is a regular performer at university events, but they have performed in Bayreuth, Germany and in Switzerland as well. Their charity concerts benefit Hungarian health institutions. The orchestra\u00a0was founded in 2008, its musical director and conductor is Gergely Dub\u00f3czky. It mainly consists of medical students of our university, but several musicians represent other Hungarian higher-education institutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
