Semmelweis University\u2019s Department of Orthopedics hosted the one-week Travelling Fellowship program of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT), held for the first time in Hungary, on October 6-13. Under the international fellowship program for young orthopedics-traumatologist residents preparing for their medical exams, ten residents visited Hungary, learning about the procedures used here through lectures, case studies and operations.<\/div>\n

It is a great professional honor that the Department of Orthopedics, under the direction of previous EFORT president Dr. Mikl\u00f3s Szendr\u0151i, was the first in Hungary to organize this international training program, declared Dr. Attila Szatm\u00e1ri, a resident at the department and one of the organizers of the program. He added that in addition to getting specialized training, the Travelling Fellowship was also an opportunity the boost the international recognition of the university, and within that the Department of Orthopedics.<\/p>\n\r\n [slb_exclude]\r\n

During the course of the program the ten young specialists representing various European countries visited several institutions where they learned about orthopedics-traumatology care in Hungary. They spent two days at the Department of Orthopedics, where they listened to presentations among others about a key area of the department, bone and soft-tissue tumor surgery, as well as other topics like hand and shoulder surgeries and knee operations, and visited the department\u2019s gait lab, said Dr. Attila Szatm\u00e1ri. Members of the course listened to a presentation about mosaicplasty at the Orthopedics-Traumatology Department of the Uzsoki Hospital, while at the Orthopedics Department of the University of P\u00e9cs they were shown at the 3D CT center how tailor-made implants and designed in more complicated cases. As the last station of the program they visited the National Center for Spinal Disorders where in addition to lectures they also observed some operations. The young residents also presented their own work and the profile of their hospitals in short presentations. Dr. Attila Szatm\u00e1ri emphasized that they received highly positive feedback, and the international guests returned home having gained new experiences and knowledge.<\/p>\n
