A statue of Ign\u00e1c Semmelweis was inaugurated in the Mount Sinai Hospital of Toronto as part of the Semmelweis Memorial Year. The ceremony was hosted by director Dr. Gary Newton. The speakers included Dr. P\u00e9ter Forb\u00e1th, Canadian-Hungarian physician, who praised Ign\u00e1c Semmelweis\u2019 work in his speech, Dr. Trevor Young, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and Dr. Dan Farine, head of the hospital\u2019s Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In his speech, Val\u00e9r Palkovits, Consul General in Canada, spoke about the Memorial Year, thanking everyone who contributed to the project, making special mention of Dr. L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Rosivall, president of the Semmelweis Memorial Committee, and Dr. John Dirks, Canadian nephrologist.<\/p>\n
