\"\"<\/a>A postgraduate professional training about gastroenterology surgery was being held in Budapest by European Digestive Surgery (EDS) organized by the 1st<\/sup> Department of Surgery of Semmelweis University. During the three-day event the participants could learn more about gastrointestinal surgery updates as well.<\/p>\n

The EDS postgraduate professional training was organized for the 11th<\/sup> time, this year the event was hosted by Semmelweis University in Budapest. The patron of the congress was Dr. \u00c1goston Sz\u00e9l, Rector, and its president was Dr. Attila Szij\u00e1rt\u00f3, Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the 1st<\/sup> Department of Surgery at Semmelweis University. As Dr. Szij\u00e1rt\u00f3 highlighted, participants arrived at the congress from several countries, such as the Netherlands, Lithuania, Italy, Russia, Germany and even Japan.<\/p>\n

\u201cEDS is a European Association dealing with gastroenterology surgery, the primary purpose of which is the organization of postgraduate training courses focusing on topic-oriented, specific surgical questions. The discussions, the exchange of experiences and the high-level continuing professional training of the colleagues are especially important.\u201d, expressed Dr. Szij\u00e1rt\u00f3.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Almost 160 participants attended the three-day congress, who had the opportunity to listen to more than 40 lectures. The programme agenda of the first day was attending workshops, and on the second and third day scientific lectures were being held. The topic of the lectures held on the second day was HPB surgery (Hepato- Pancreato- Biliary surgery), while on the third day the current updates of gastrointestinal surgery were discussed.<\/p>\n

As Dr. Szij\u00e1rt\u00f3 emphasized, many recognized Hungarian and international professionals held lectures during the congress, such as Dr. Thomas van Gulik, Director of the surgical department of the Dutch Academisch Medisch Centrum and Dr. Helmut Friess, Director of the surgical clinic of Chirurgischen Klinik und Poliklinik am Klinikum rechts der Isar der TUM. Semmelweis University Asklepios Campus Hamburg was represented by Dr. Gregor A. Stavrou.<\/p>\n
