The Medic Orchestra of Semmelweis University held its first charity concert at the Liszt Academy on March 19, 2017, which was a sold-out performance. The entire revenue of 1.5 million HUF was offered for the benefit of the 1st<\/sup> Department of Paediatrics, which amount provided financial support in purchasing a new set of monitoring equipment for the Intensive Therapy Section. With the help of the equipment the recovery process can be more efficient and more secure for several hundred children every year, who are having a serious illness.<\/p>\n

The new monitoring equipment, to the purchase of which the charity concert also contributed, is already in operation at the 1st<\/sup> Department of Paediatrics. However, the department would welcome any further support to be able to purchase the credit-financed expensive equipment items. The monitors provide information about heart functions, respiratory rate, blood pressure among other things, and provide opportunity for the observation of brain activity. With the help of the central monitor the physicians and the nurses are able to pay attention to all the children at the Intensive Therapy Section simultaneously.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The programme of the concert held on March 19<\/a> consisted of the Academic Festival Overture by Brahms; Mahler\u2019s Songs of a Wayfarer performed by the guest of the evening, Atala Sch\u00f6ck, artist of the Hungarian State Opera House; and Dvo\u0159ak\u2019s New World Symphony. This was the first large-scale charity concert held by the Medic Orchestra. The orchestra was founded in 2008, and it mainly consists of medical students of our university, but several musicians represent other Hungarian higher-education institutions. Previously they held smaller concerts at Pet\u0151 Andr\u00e1s College as well, but they intend to hold charity concerts regularly in the future.<\/p>\n
