The latest list of highly cited global researchers has been published, including two scientists from Hungary – one of them is Dr. Péter Ferdinandy, Semmelweis University’s Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation. The list of researchers, which is based on the data of selected content of the Web of Science, a multidisciplinary international knowledge database, contains a total of 6,400 people from all around the world.

The ranking includes researchers who are highly cited in one of 21 scientific fields, or have cross-field citations. The editors of the list used highly cited publications published between 2009 and 2019 to compile the ranking, i.e. papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year. In the academic arena, citations are the metric for scientific impact.

The list of Highly Cited Researchers 2020 includes two scientists working in Hungary, one of whom is Dr. Péter Ferdinandy, Semmelweis University’s Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, director of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, and head of the Cradiometabolic Research Group and the MTA-SE Systems Pharmacology research group. Dr. Ferdinandy was included in the list based on his numerous highly-cited papers in the categories of pharmacology and toxicology, and clinical medicine. He also appeared on the list previously in 2014 and 2017. The other Hungarian researcher on the list is Dr. Attila Szolnoki (Institute of Technical Physics and Materials Science)

The list of researchers, which is based on the core collection of the Web of Science multidisciplinary international knowledge database, contains a total of 6400 people from all around the world.
