A New Milestone in European Health Workforce Planning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The final conference of the <a href=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/en\/projects\/ongoing-projects\/ja-heroes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>HEROES Joint Action<\/strong><\/a> was held in Rome on <strong>7\u20138 July 2026<\/strong>, bringing together European policymakers, health policy experts, researchers, and leading professionals in health workforce planning to review the achievements of the project&#8217;s more than three years of collaborative work.\u00a0<strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">Semmelweis University<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">\u00a0was represented at the event by our colleagues,\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">Dr. Eszter Kov\u00e1cs<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">Dr. Zolt\u00e1n Cserh\u00e1ti<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">\u00a0from the\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">Health Services Management Training Center<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">at the Faculty of Health and Public Administration (HSMTC)<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;text-align: left\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The HEROES Joint Action builds on the achievements of the <strong>JA-EUHWF Joint Action<\/strong> and the <strong>SEPEN<\/strong> service contract, both of which featured a leading contribution from the HSMTC of Semmelweis University throughout their implementation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-27623 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/files\/2026\/07\/heroes_csoportkep_2026jul.jpg\" alt=\"HEROES Joint Action z\u00e1r\u00f3konferenci\u00e1ja\" width=\"1728\" height=\"1297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/files\/2026\/07\/heroes_csoportkep_2026jul.jpg 1728w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/files\/2026\/07\/heroes_csoportkep_2026jul-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/files\/2026\/07\/heroes_csoportkep_2026jul-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/files\/2026\/07\/heroes_csoportkep_2026jul-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/files\/2026\/07\/heroes_csoportkep_2026jul-1536x1153.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/semmelweis.hu\/emk\/files\/2026\/07\/heroes_csoportkep_2026jul-753x565.jpg 753w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1728px) 100vw, 1728px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The HEROES Joint Action brought together <strong>51 partner organizations from 19 European countries<\/strong> with the shared objective of strengthening national capacities for health workforce planning across Europe.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fontos_div w-100\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>The project focused on four strategic areas:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>\n<p>improving human resources for health (HRH) data and developing advanced workforce planning and forecasting models;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>strengthening the competencies of professionals involved in health workforce planning;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>enhancing stakeholder collaboration;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>reinforcing policy governance and strategic coordination.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As a result of the project, a comprehensive portfolio of practical tools, methodological guidance, data development approaches, training materials, and national policy action plans has been developed to support <strong>evidence-informed health workforce planning across Europe<\/strong> in the long term.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Over the past three and a half years, the <strong>Health Workforce Planning Knowledge Centre<\/strong> of Semmelweis University&#8217;s HSMTC also led three horizontal activities within the Joint Action:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>\n<p>maintaining and further developing the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/healthworkforce.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/healthworkforce.eu\/<\/a><\/strong> platform;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>pptimising HRH data to support agile workforce planning;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>cCoordinating policy dialogues among participating countries and stakeholders.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The conference showcased the methodologies, tools, policy recommendations, and good practices developed within the HEROES Joint Action. Participants also discussed how these outputs can be sustained and further integrated into future European cooperation. The event was streamed online, enabling broad international participation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">One of the conference&#8217;s key messages was that health workforce planning has evolved beyond a purely technical exercise into a complex process requiring strategic governance, coordination, and cross-sector collaboration.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">High-quality data, robust planning models, well-trained workforce planning professionals, and active policy cooperation together provide the foundation for sustainable decision-making and dynamic evidence-informed workforce planning.
