Medical students will be given an insight into the ways of approaching holistic, complex bio-psycho-social and somatic problems, prevention and the differential diagnostics of frequent diseases. The aim is to show them through certain patient cases how and when to apply the basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and tools, how to develop and maintain a long-term patient-doctor relationship, improve communication skills or work with short interventions.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Location of the course (lecture hall, practice room, etc.):<br \/>\n<\/strong>Family medicine will be introduced on a one-to-one tutoring basis in accredited tutorial practices (with contracted GP tutors in Budapest and its agglomeration).<br \/>\nSeminars will take place at lecture halls of the Department or other University institutes.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Competencies gained upon the successful completion of the subject:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Basics of a preventive approach, screening methods.<br \/>\nApproach for the holistic patient care, managing complex bio-psycho-social-health problems.<br \/>\nFrequent acute and chronic illness care in the primary care.<br \/>\nDifferential diagnostics. Rurik Imre, Becze \u00c1d\u00e1m, Nemcsik J\u00e1nos, Lak\u00f3-Fut\u00f3 Zolt\u00e1n, Perj\u00e9s \u00c1bel, Vajer P\u00e9ter, Vaj\u00f3 Zolt\u00e1n, V\u00f6r\u00f6s Kriszti\u00e1n, Xantus G\u00e1bor, Zsuffa J\u00e1nos of the Department)<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Practicals<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/u><u> <\/u>The block consists of having 2x 6 lessons in a family practice in a one-to-one tutoring basis on two different days, usually 1 morning and 1 afternoon session and consultation with your tutor (case discussion).<\/p>\n<p>The case discussion report is best written about a frequent task in primary care discussing the diagnostic, differential diagnostic and therapeutic ways and possibilities in the following topics:<\/p>\n<p>Patient got &#8216;caught&#8217; during screening procedures <br \/>\nor Patients with<br \/>\n&#8211; complex cardiovascular and\/or metabolic disease<br \/>\n&#8211; frequent serious communicable disease (pneumonia, not the common cold)<br \/>\n&#8211; musculoskeletal disease that have a strong impact on the patient&#8217;s life<br \/>\n&#8211; complex psycho-social problems<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Potential overlap(s) with other subjects:\u00a0<\/strong> Internal medicine<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Policy regarding the attendance and making up absences: <\/strong>It\u2019s compulsory for the student to attend all of the training sessions: 2 days at the GP office and the all 4 seminars on Friday. <br \/>\n2 other days remain free for the essay writing, consultation e.g. <br \/>\nPractical absence must be covered with a makeup session and re-scheduled with your assigned GP tutor.<br \/>\nFor the seminars makeup classes are available with other groups &#8211; see dates on Neptun<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Means of assessing the students\u2019 progress during the semester<sup>4<\/sup>: <br \/>\n<\/strong>During training the tutor evaluates the skills of the student, provide a feedback on attitude (motivation, communication) and professional knowledge (physical examination, medical science) on a 5-scale system.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Requirement for acknowledging the semester (signature): <br \/>\n<\/strong>It\u2019s compulsory for the student to attend all 3 days of the block, they are mandatory, the other 2 days remain free\/for study, consultation etc.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Type of the examination<\/strong>: &#8211; (practical mark)<br \/>\nTutor&#8217;s assessment of how actively the student has participated in the training (40%).<\/p>\n<p>Compiling a 3,000-6,000 character long case study based on one of the topics given in advance. At least <strong>one relevant study, article from professional literature, or a guideline, a recommendation should be included<\/strong> (e.g. concerning a certain diagnostic problem, a therapy decision, a screening recommendation, a guideline\/protocol applied for the specific case and how is it relevant to the case at hand). (60%)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Requirements<sup>5<\/sup>:\u00a0<\/strong>Composing a case study at least 3000 and maximum 6000 characters <strong>(without spaces)<\/strong> about an examined patient based on the following topics:<br \/>\nPatient picked through screening<br \/>\nComplex cardiovascular\/metabolic disease, chronic care<br \/>\nFrequent severe communicable disease<br \/>\nPatient with a musculoskeletal disease that affects the everyday life<br \/>\nA case study displaying psychosocial problems<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Required parts of the case presentation:<\/span><br \/>\n1. Anamnesis<br \/>\n2. Current complaints<br \/>\n3. An examination plan and\/or\u00a0Examinations<br \/>\n4. Diagnosis<br \/>\n5. Therapy<br \/>\n6. Further patient care (followup plan in primary care)<br \/>\n<strong>7. Processing and assessing the case based on professional literature<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>8. Bibliography (proper quotations!)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For 7-8. at least one relevant study, article from professional literature, or a guideline, a recommendation should be included<\/strong> (e.g. concerning a certain diagnostic problem, a therapy decision, a screening recommendation, a guideline\/protocol applied for the specific case).<\/p>\n<p>Case report essay must be uploaded until the next Sunday after the block on MOODLE course platform.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Type and method of grading<sup>6<\/sup>: <\/strong>Assessment and grading of the course: with a 1 to 5 practical mark:<br \/>\nIt\u2019s based on the student\u2019s activity, participation during the training assessed by the tutor (40 percent) and the grade of the required case study (60 percent).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assessment of the case study is based on the following:<\/strong><br \/>\nGrade 1: failing to hand in the essay by deadline, the case study is not<br \/>\noriginal, but plagiarism<br \/>\nGrade 2: the number of characters is under 3,000; absence of a required part of the case study, serious professional failure<br \/>\nGrade 3: 2-3 professional or formal mistakes, unsophisticated wording<br \/>\nGrade 4: characters more than 6,000; 1-2 not too significant professional mistake, not specific, but general literature<br \/>\nGrade 5: requirements fulfilled, precise and accurate wording in the medical language, adequate conclusions, relevant literature<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>How to register for the exam: <\/strong>&#8211; (practical mark)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"612\">\n<p><strong>Opportunities to retake the exam: <\/strong>In accordance with the Studies and Exams Code.
