Semmelweis University puts a great emphasis on selecting outstanding applicants for enrollment and training. Therefore, we persist in undertaking complex entrance examination that is an oral exam, which allows us to reliably evaluate the knowledge, skills, motivation and personality of the applicants.<\/p>\n

Exams are held regularly, once per two weeks, from February to mid-August. The exact dates and times are available for those applicants who have successfully submitted their application(s) in the SEMAPHOR<\/a> online application system. Final details and exam instructions are sent to those applicants who have signed up for an exam date.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Biological Knowledge Necessary for Admission and Successful Studies<\/h2>\n

The main scientific fields covered by the exams are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The origin\u00a0and the evolution of life. Prokaryotes and eukaryotes.<\/li>\n
  2. Molecules of life: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids. The outstanding role of water.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  3. Organization levels: cell, tissues, organs, organ systems, organism: basics of their structure and function<\/li>\n
  4. The cytoplasm and the\u00a0cell membrane. Composition and transport processes of biological membranes: active transports, passive transports (especially osmosis).<\/li>\n
  5. Main\u00a0structural and functional\u00a0characteristics of the organelles:\u00a0nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi-apparatus, lysosomes, peroxisomes.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  6. Basic terms\u00a0of molecular\u00a0genetics: the information-carrying mechanisms of the cell: replication, transcription, translation.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  7. Basics of cell metabolism\u00a0in humans (and animals).\u00a0Anabolic\u00a0and catabolic processes.<\/li>\n
  8. Cell cycle and division: basics and phases of mitosis and meiosis<\/li>\n
  9. Terms and basics of human genetics\u00a0Modes of the inheritance. Basic terms of Mendelian genetics and molecular genetics.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  10. Reproduction: gonads, hormonal\u00a0regulation of germ cell production. Fertilization. Early steps of embryonic development.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Note:<\/em><\/strong> Knowledge of English terminology is required in all of these areas!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    If the candidate is applying to one of our master courses, the entrance exam will contain materials from the chosen field at B.Sc. level.<\/h5>\n

      Evaluation<\/h2>\n

      The respective Department evaluates the applicants\u2019 performance at the entrance examinations. Head of the Faculty makes decisions regarding admissions based on the skills, knowledge and attitude judged by the performance at the entrance examination.<\/p>\n

      Registration for the examination<\/h2>\n

      Applicants have to register (sign up) for the entrance examinations in SEMAPHOR after having submitted a valid application (and paid the Admission Procedure Fee).
