The goals of the course in point of view of the education:
Learning and practicing the fundamentals of oral implantology. Laying the fundamentals of theory, introducing implantological aspects of surgical and prosthetic dentistry, detailed overview of the bone substitution procedures.

Syllabus for the subject:
I.semester syllabus :
– Introduction. History of oral implantology – The classification of oral implants, according to the anatomic site. – The indications, contraindications of implant treatment. – Diagnostics and treatment planning. – General considerations of implant surgery. – Special considerations of implant surgery. The time of implant placement. – The essential conditions of success of the implant therapy I. Biocompatibility. Osseointegration. – The essential conditions of success of the implant therapy II. Gingival seal. Progressive osseointegration. -The essential conditions of success of the implant therapy III. The factors influencing the masticatory load transmission through implants. -The fundamental biomechanics of oral implants -The fundamentals of implant prosthodontics I. Implant abutments, impression techniques. -The fundamentals of implant prosthodontics II. Prosthetic options on implants. -The role of surface chemistry and topography in the osseointegration -Visiting lecturer
II.semester syllabus :
-Bone replacement I. Osteoconduction. Osteoinduction. Bone grafting materials. Guided Bone Regeneration /GBR/. Bone grafting procedures in the outpatient surgery. -Bone replacement II. The sinus-lift procedure. Indications, contraindications, surgical techniques. -Bone replacement III. Osteogenesis, bone transplantation. Distraction osteogenesis. -The parodontal aspects of implant therapy. – Esthetic considerations in implant surgery. Surgical management of soft tissues. – Implant prosthodontics I. Crowns on implants. – Implant prosthodontics II. Fixed dental prosthesis on implants. – Implant prosthodonticsIII. Mesio-structures, combined / fixed-removable / prosthesis on implants. – ITI- Straumann implant system. – Nobel-Biocare implant system – Ankylos implant system. – Comprehensive lecture. Implant therapy in the practice. Planning and completing in different anatomical situations. – Implant failures. Biological, mechanical complications and their management. – Guided surgery in oral implantology – Visiting lecturer
Practice of Implantology complements and deepens the knowledge obtained during the theoretical course – Diagnostics – X-ray diagnostics, CBCT analysis, introduction of X-ray and surgical template – Introduction of the SIC system – emphasize on the unique properties of the system (Sic Matrix surface, cad-cam based prosthetic abutment, flex star abutment, safe on four concept) Implant Surgery overview through the system. – Introduction of the Straumann system – emphasize on the unique properties of the system (surface, comparison of 1-stage / 2-stage surgical method), Prothetics of the Straumann system in headword). Practicing the steps of the prostethics on a model – Ankylos system overview – emphasize on the unique properties of the system (platform switching, Balance healing screws and and abutments, syncone system). Introduction to guided surgery through the ExpertEase system – Nobel Biocare system overview – emphasize on the unique properties of the system (surface, Replace and Nobel implants, Procera system, Nobel Guide). Practical Presentation of the Nobel Active implants – Denti system overview – emphasize on the unique properties of the system. – Consultation before the mods |
Attendance on practices and lectures, replacement in case of missed sessions:
Attendance on practices and lectures is mandatory. No more than a 25% of the lectures and 25% of the practices are allowed to be missed. In case of approved absence, there is a possibility for for replacement.

Consequences of absence from sessions and exams:
No more than a 25% of the lectures and 25% of the practices are allowed to be missed for any reason – not even with a doctor’s note – otherwise the semester will not be accepted. In case of absence from the exam the rules of the Studies and Examination Regulation (TVSZ) are applied.

Topics dates and number of midterms (oral reports, written tests), possibilities to replace and repeat them: Written tests are carried out three-times in the semester, satisfactory grades can be given in case of a result of 50% or above . In case of an unsuccessful test, there are two possibilities to repeat. The time and topic for the demonstrations is announced at the start of the semester. Students who accomplish none of the demonstrations, are provided one opportunity for correction during the last week of the semester, held by a board of lead lecturers.

Requirements of an accepted semester (signature of the lecturer), numbers and types of tasks for students:
At the end of the semester, students get practical grade. Students get their practical grade from the valuation of their theoretical knowledge and their skills during the practical work (in II. semester). |
Grading of courses: Colloquium (I. semester): Verbal explanation of one essay from a greater topic (topic is drawn), followed by 3 quiz questions (topic is drawn) answered instantly
Mods (II. semester): Verbal explanation of two essay of a greater topic (topic is drawn), followed by 5 quiz questions (topic is drawn) answered instantly
Failing any of parts of the exam will result in failure of the whole exam.

Rules of absence from the exam: Missing the final exam is regulated by the TVSZ.
