On the newly published lists of ShanghaiRanking, publisher of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), Semmelweis University is listed in several categories. The institution has been ranked in the range of 201-300 on the top 500 list of the world’s best universities in the field of clinical medicine and has received the same place in the field of medical technology for the first time this year.

In human biology and pharmacy, the university remains to be in the range of 301-400, and in the field of biology, in the range of 401-500. Semmelweis University is present as the only Hungarian institution on most of the lists. In the field of clinical medicine, only Charles University of Prague has gained a better position in the Central Eastern European region; in the field of medical technology, however, the two institutions have been classified into the same category.

ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects ranks universities in 54 subjects. Institutions are ranked by several indicators of academic or research performance, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in Nature and Science, papers indexed in major citation indices, and the per capita academic performance of an institution.
