The delegation of the Faculty of Medicine has been to Iran

Dr. László Hunyady, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (ÁOK) and Dr. Tamás Masszi, Vice-Dean, visited the Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences during their official visit in Iran. During the meetings, they reviewed the possibilities of cooperation, such as student and teacher exchange and wreathed the statue of Ignác Semmelweis.

There has been a longstanding relationship between Semmelweis University and Iranian universities; the representatives of both of the institutions we visited have recently been to Budapest – said the Dean in the interview given to our website, adding that the purpose of the visit was to explore further cooperation opportunities. It was realized that the professional level of work at the two Iranian universities serves as a good basis for scientific and educational cooperation. The main conclusion of the visit was that the infrastructure of Tehran University of Medical Sciences is of a very high standard. On the other hand, the staff of the Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences could be provided with assistance by our university in order to introduce procedures that are already running at our institution but are to be initiated at their university, said Dr. László Hunyady.

In Tehran the members of the delegation also visited the medical university’s units and the clinics belonging to them. They also participated at the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN) conference, where besides the Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Robert Huber, Dr. László Hunyady presented a lecture. The representatives of the two universities, Dr. László Hunyady, Dean and Dr. Mohammad Reza Mirjalili, President signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation at the Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences.

During the visit in the presence of the leaders of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Dr. László Hunyady and Dr. Tamás Masszi wreathed the statue of Ignác Semmelweis in Tehran to tribute the name-giver of the university who was born 200 years ago. Talking about the experience of the visit, Dr. László Hunyady considered that both universities could be accredited, which would create the possibility for the Iranian students studying at our university to make some of their practice in their home country. Besides the student and teacher exchange, the possibility of research collaboration also emerged because there are overlaps in many fields (e.g. hematology) in the research activity of the universities.
