At the recommendation of the Ministry of Human Capacities, Dr. Károly Szász has been appointed as the Chancellor of Semmelweis University for another three years by the Prime Minister. Chancellor Szász emphasized that it is a great honour for him to continue the work in this position and he expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and for the entire university.

“Probably the most important achievement of the past three years is the fact that the operability of the university is ensured and its financial management is balanced. There are available savings, which can be used for development and for the recognition of employees with outstanding, excellent achievements. The operation of the institution has become more transparent and regular, and as a result of the new regulations, processes are in progress in a more evident way.”, highlighted Chancellor Szász.

Chancellor Szász again emphasized that the currently available savings can be used by the different units operating in a decentralized way in the framework of free budget use. He also pointed out that those decisions can and have to be made, with the help of which these available amounts can be used for development on the faculty-, institutional- and clinical levels.

Regarding the election of the forthcoming rector, Chancellor Szász explained that his major aim is to continue the good cooperation with the rector, since they, as the leaders of Semmelweis University, together have to serve the interests of the entire community. The forthcoming rector will be appointed on July 1, 2018.

According to Chancellor Szász, essentially the already started projects and work should be continued in the future. He also added that the introduction of the Semmelweis XXI development plan within the Healthy Budapest Program could mean a challenge. In the realization of this plan the Chancery has to actively participate.

Dr. Károly Szász was first appointed as Chancellor of Semmelweis University when the system of Chancery was established, on November 15, 2014. The commission of three years came to an end in the middle of November. As a result of the new grant application, Dr. Károly Szász has been again appointed as Chancellor for yet another three years starting from November 16, 2017 until November 15, 2020.
