Dr. Marcel Pop, Director of International Relations had the honour to hold the commencement speech at the Commencement Ceremony 2017 of Rutgers University School of Nursing Camden.

In his speech Dr. Pop highlighted the importance of the process of internationalization in higher education and he emphasized that the key for a successful international collaboration is to nurture good personal relations.

He encouraged the graduating students to be brave, to be open to changes and new challenges, to always try to make the best out of themselves, to use their knowledge and competences in the service of humanity and never forget to see the human being behind the illness when working with their patients.

Director Pop also talked about the namesake of our University, Ignaz Semmelweis, who saved thousands of mothers from childbed fever with his progressive innovation, the introduction of mandatory hand washing with chlorinated water.  Dr. Pop highlighted the importance of the work of midwives, who showed an example at that time and who helped Dr. Semmelweis to recognize the cause of the puerperal fever.

Dr. Pop had the opportunity to address the highest number of graduating students ever in the life of Rutgers University School of Nursing Camden during the Commencement: more than 350 graduating students were conferred upon the BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) and DNP (Doctoral Nurse Practicioners) degrees.
